Buying Groups
Setting up a Buying Group with Essential
At Essential, we have proudly supplied buying groups across the UK for many years, helping households access ethical, responsibly sourced products at competitive prices. Buying groups are a practical way for communities, friends, neighbours and families to shop together while supporting cooperative values and more sustainable consumption.
Ethical shopping at affordable prices
By ordering collectively, buying groups can benefit from bulk purchasing, reduced packaging waste, fewer delivery miles, and greater access to a wide range of ethical products. Many groups also value the sense of connection and shared purpose that comes from working together locally.
Buying groups offer an alternative way to shop, giving members more choice, increased transparency over where products come from, and access to items that may not always be available through local mainstream retailers.
Opening a Buying Group Account
To apply for a buying group account with Essential, your group must meet the following requirements:
- A minimum of four households and a maximum of ten households
- A maximum of ten individual log-ins per group
- A single delivery address with suitable lorry access
- One main point of contact for communication (the buying group administrator)
- A single payment method for each order (orders cannot be split into separate payments)
All new buying group applications are subject to approval by our New Business Team.
Location and Approval Criteria
To help us maintain a fair and sustainable trading environment, we are unable to approve new buying groups that are located in close proximity to existing retail customers we currently supply.
Applications will be assessed at our discretion, taking into account:
- Proximity to existing retail partners
- Potential impact on current trade relationships
- Local trading dynamics
- Long-term sustainability within the area
This approach helps us continue to support both buying groups and independent retailers across our shared network.
Minimum Order Values
Minimum order quantities and order values apply to all buying groups and may vary depending on location, delivery route, and operational requirements.
Specific order requirements will be confirmed during the application process and may be reviewed periodically.
Delivery Information
We deliver to most parts of the UK using either our own fleet or trusted external transport partners. Our own drivers are members of our co-operative, helping us maintain high standards of customer care and driver welfare.
Delivery days vary by postcode and route. Your allocated delivery day and any applicable minimum order requirements will be confirmed as part of your application.
