Support Our Community: Redcatch Community Garden

Redcatch Community Garden is a fellow cooperative based in North Bristol.

It is firmly rooted in the community and offers opportunities for engagement by bringing local people together to learn, socialise, share skills and experiences, and improve health and wellbeing.

We spoke to Kate from Redcatch about their new frozen food venture; Fork It Forward.
Fork It Forward

Redcatch Community Garden does many, many things. As well as a beautiful working garden growing fruits, vegetables and flowers, it is a space for the community to come together.

Built upon the site of an abandoned bowling green in Redcatch Park, something very special has bloomed to life. Whether attending an event, art therapy or wellbeing sessions, workshops, or just coming together to get a coffee and a cake; you'll find an adaptable space that seeks to meet the needs of the community.

I met Georgia, who was attending a health and wellbeing crafting workshop. The group was creating Christmas hampers with products that were created in and from the garden, such as soaps, wooden crafts, ferments and chutneys.

Georgia also volunteers in the garden, helping to harvest produce which goes into the Fork It Forward range; a new hearty, nutritious and delicious frozen food range which is grown either in the garden itself, or as locally as possible.

The hampers and frozen meals are sold in the community shop and cafe on site, with the proceeds going directly back into the incredible events run by Redcatch, supporting the most at need in the community.

The full circle nature of the project is an inspiring model for generating real impact in a community. Everyone is invited to contribute to and benefit from all areas of the garden and it's outputs, resulting in a more connected and resilient community.

Fork It Forward is so much more than frozen meals, it is an opportunity to get involved and give back to an amazing project - as well as getting some delicious food in the process!
