Clearspot makes organic tofu, lovingly crafted by hand in the heart of North Yorkshire.

We’re an independent, family-run business based in Malton – just north of the historic city of York. We’ve been handmaking tofu since 1980, following a traditional Japanese recipe. 

That’s over four decades of perfecting our craft (and making a lot of tofu!). Each batch is made in small quantities and pressed in muslin cloth, giving our tofu its signature extra-firm texture. 

ofu, made from soya bean curd, has been a staple in Asian cuisine for centuries - prized for its nutrition and incredible versatility. With its delicate, subtle flavour, Clearspot tofu can turn its hand to almost anything. Stir-fries, curries, salads, soups, sandwiches, pasta dishes… even enjoyed cold straight from the pack. When people ask, “What can I do with tofu?” our answer is simple: anything.

We always encourage experimenting - tofu takes on flavour beautifully and brings a satisfying, firm texture to any meal.

We’re particular about what goes into our tofu. We use only the very best natural ingredients, starting with 100% organic soya beans. Known in China as “ta-tou” or “great beans,” these pulses are nutritional powerhouses. Our sourcing policy is rigorous – only sustainable, great-tasting beans make it through our doors. We currently source from trusted growers in Canada and Italy, and we’re always exploring options closer to home. You’ll never find beans in our tofu that come from areas linked to deforestation.

That means every block of Clearspot tofu is packed with goodness – naturally low in calories, saturated fat and carbs, and never highly processed. Just three simple ingredients go into our Original Tofu: organic soya beans, water, and nigari (a natural ingredient from seawater).

Here’s how we make it:
We cook and blend our beans into fresh soya milk, add nigari, and gently stir until the curds form. These curds are scooped into a muslin-lined box, pressed with a heavy weight, and left to rest until they reach that perfect Clearspot firmness and texture. 
The result? Tofu that’s 100% vegan, gluten-free, 
and utterly delicious. This tofu there is no need to press, we’ve done the hard-work for you, so it arrives in your kitchen ready to use, whatever you wish to create or cook with it. 

We like it really crispy, and a perfect start when preparing your tofu is to coating it in a little seasoned cornflour before cooking. This gives perfect, crisp edges and a delicious crunch and texture to your dish. Clearspot tofu isn’t mushy or pappy, but has bite and retains it’s texture even when cooked in a sauce. 
Like we said, it’s extra-firm so retains it’s shape so you can slice it, dice it, peel it, crumble it, even grate it. 

Some of our favourite ways to enjoy it include: tofu & vegetable skewers, sweet and sour tofu, or miso-smoked tofu with roasted garlic and butternut squash.
