| With UK Grown oats, devOATed Oat Shakes have the lowest food mileage and supply chain emissions of any milkshake available in the UK.
Started by Moira (mum) and Oli (son) in 2023, devOATed is a family-owned business, based in rural Nottinghamshire, on an arable farm which the family has been farming for three generations. The family members are all environmentally conscious and sustainably minded.
Their farm is home to one of the UK’s first community-owned wind turbines and they work closely with a pioneering sustainability group. Their latest project aims to demonstrate that food can be grown in between rows of ground mounted solar panels, rather than the land being left fallow.
Our Story
We’ve been drinking oat milk in our family for decades, Moira used to make a homemade version inspired by brose – an oat-stepped drink which her father was given to quench his thirst when harvesting oats in his native Scotland. However, we were always frustrated by the lack of great-tasting and sustainably made dairy-free milkshakes in the UK. This was brought into even sharper focus when grandchildren arrived into the family.
So, in 2023, we decided to launch devOATed – the UK’s first plant-based milkshakes made with 100% British grown oats and all natural ingredients.
For the first year we manufactured small batches of our Chocolate, Salted Caramel and Strawberry & Vanilla oatshakes from Moira’s kitchen doing everything by hand. If we started really early, worked late, and nothing went wrong, we could make 250 bottles a day. We were selling to local farm shops, deli’s and cafes as well as food and drink markets around the East Midlands.
Since then, we’ve come a long way, we now manufacture from a purpose-built facility on the farm. This gives us absolute control over every single batch of our shakes to ensure every bottle is made to exacting standards.
Our aim is to deliver smooth, creamy and delicious shakes every time.
Our oatshakes are made using traditional techniques and instead of ultra-processing or adding preservatives, we gently pasteurise them so they retain as much of the natural ingredients’ qualities and flavours as possible.

Our Guiding Principles
DevOATed is founded on two core principals which guide everything we do: Taste and Sustainability.
Sustainability
We grow some of the finest oats in the world in the UK, yet for some bizarre reason 80% of oat drinks sold in the UK are made abroad. As farmers, this doesn’t make sense, that’s why we use only 100% British-grown oats in devOATed. Therefore, we have the lowest food mileage and supply chain emissions of any milkshake available in the UK.
When it comes to packaging, we believe that glass is the best format for us and our shakes, it can be readily recycled with most local authorities now offering kerbside collection. Our lids and cases are also fully recyclable, in fact all our packing is recyclable and plastic-free.
We also manufacture in the least environmentally impactful way we can. We send nothing to landfill and reuse hot water from our pasteurisers in our cleaning processes.
We make devOATed freshly, in small batches every week, this means we don’t hold vast amounts of stock and therefore create no food waste whatsoever.
Taste
Gone are the days when ‘free-from’ products were expected to underperform on taste or functionality, in fact we believe ‘free-from’ means better. That’s why we set out from the very beginning to make sure devOATed was one of the best tasting milkshakes in the UK.
Our Chocolate oatshake was the first milkshake, dairy or non-dairy, to win a Great Taste Award. We’ve since also been awarded for our Salted Caramel (and we’ve just sent samples of our Strawberry & Vanilla off to the judges, so watch this space!).
We’re also really proud to have achieved these accolades without using lots of added sugar. We spent a long time developing our recipes to focus on the natural flavours rather than simply adding lots of sugar. In fact, across our range devOATed contains less than half the sugar of most fruit juices or fruit smoothies and almost 75% less than the equivalent dairy milkshakes in the market. For instance, our Chocolate oatshake is compliant with the Government’s HFSS legislation, scoring a very impressive zero, yet is also Great Taste Award-winning!
We only use natural ingredients and source everything as locally as possible, we’re proud to support British makers and growers.
DevOATed is dairy-free, vegan and contains only natural ingredients whilst also being high in calcium, vitamin B12 and D.
